Interview with Keith Schneider

Keith Schneider, the new Renaissance Welterweight champion will be making his pro debut in Renaissance MMA6 June 21st. Keith is also nominated for fighter of the month with LA Fight Club. I talked to Keith after his victory.

LFC: Congratulations on winning the Renaissance MMA Amateur Welterweight World Title. Can you tell me what it took to get you to this point?

Keith: Thanks. First off you have to be solid at home to pursue this kind of sport. I have had to learn to balance my life at home, work and my training for MMA. I have been training for almost two years at Gold Dragon MMA. I believe if you “Train hard, fight harder you will dominate.”

LFC:  With this title bout being set up in a 4-man tournament, do you prepare for it differently than you would if you were facing a single opponent?

Keith: Yes and No. Yes, I did train a little differently in class. I did a lot more sparring with a lot of people to work different positions that different style fighters will bring to the cage. No, I never train for a certain person, I train to fight. It is always good to find out things about my fighter, but it never changes my approach.

LFC:  Can you describe your two matches for us?

Keith: My first opponent was, Woody Prine from Omega. He was a good fighter. We stood toe to toe for the first 30 seconds and exchanged hands, but he landed a nice punch and rocked me. I took him down and it ended shortly after by a guillotine choke. That fight lasted 1 minute and 15 seconds.

My Second opponent was, Gert Kocani from ATT. It seemed to me that this would be a great fight. We started out toe to toe and he landed a great inside leg kick, which I felt for days after. Once I started to connect I could tell he could not handle my power. So, I pursued him until I could finish the fight with my first KO.

LFC: You certainly had quite a fan base at the event and in general as is evident in all the votes being cast for you as Fighter of the Month. Are these primarily people you know or fans that have seen you fight?

Keith: A little bit of both. These are people that I have known for years. Over the past 2 years my fan base has grown thanks to everyone spreading the word. Thanks to everyone that voted for me. Much love and respect for all of my fans.

LFC:  What are your plans from here?

Keith: TRAIN HARD, FIGHT HARDER AND YOU WILL DOMINATE… THAT’S WHAT I AM GOING TO DO…
